Confucius Prize
For dissertations related to China
In order to promote young academics at the University of Graz, the Confucius Institute Graz - in addition to the extensive scholarship programs for research work with regard to China - offers this dissertation prize for China research. It is awarded for a dissertation project submitted and completed at the KFU within the last 2 years that deals with China from the perspective of the respective field of study or research.
Admitted regular students and graduates of the University of Graz can apply for this special award; applicants do not have to be Austrian citizens.
Selection procedure
The selection committee responsible for awarding these dissertation prizes is chaired by the head of the Confucius Institute and consists mainly of deans of studies and research from various KFU faculties.
Application documents
- Informal letter of application with photo, signed
- Curriculum vitae in tabular form
- Current or last study record and confirmation of studies
- Proof of academic success or doctoral certificate
- Data protection declaration
- Description of the dissertation project including detailed information on the reference to China (max. 2 pages)
- Letter of recommendation from the dissertation supervisor
- 1 bound copy of the dissertation for the library of the Confucius Institute
Transmission
Please send the complete application documents in paper form in person or by post to the Confucius Institute at the University of Graz, Elisabethstraße 32/2, 8010 Graz. The documents will not be returned after the end of the evaluation process.
Award ceremony
The date for the official award ceremony with ceremonial presentation of the certificates will be announced and is a mandatory event for the selected award winners in accordance with the requirements of the Confucius Institute. The prize money will be transferred to the award winners following the award ceremony.

We are happy to help students and pupils of the Confucius Institute at the University of Graz and its partner universities and schools with their theses and dissertations on China-related topics by, for example

Study trips
♦ Business Chinese Study Tour
This program is designed for individuals from companies who are already conducting Chinese language training programs or would like to offer Chinese language courses or business Chinese programs. This study tour will help you to learn more about China and provide you with support in terms of Chinese curriculum development, course management and its application in the business environment.
♦ Delegation trips
Aimed at Austrian school principals and teachers who have already set up Chinese language courses in their schools or are planning to introduce them, this cooperation project will also improve understanding of the Chinese education system and, above all, promote cooperation between China and Austria on educational issues and between educational institutions.
Of course, the offer to participate in delegation trips also applies to university executives.
Internships
This program offers Confucius Institute students internship opportunities to work in Sino-foreign joint ventures, companies or organizations to help them practice their Chinese language skills as well as develop their language and intercultural skills along the way.
Individuals participating in this program can complete their internship either in Austria or in China. Internships can last from 1 to 12 months, depending on the host organizations.
