YCT Exam

YCT exam, Youth Chinese Test, an international standardized Chinese language proficiency test, evaluates the ability of elementary and middle school students to use Chinese as a second language in their daily and academic life. YCT exam is divided into independent written exam and oral exam.

The written exam consists of four levels, namely YCT Level 1, YCT Level 2, YCT Level 3 and YCT Level 4.

The oral examination consists of two levels: YCT oral examination - elementary level and YCT oral examination - intermediate level.

If you would like to take an exam at the Confucius Institute of the University of Graz, you must register before the registration deadline at on www.chinesetest.cn. The following 3 steps must be followed：

1. log in to www.chinesetest.cn and register for the exam. On the English webpage it is under "Test Taker".

Attention:

• The size of the electronic photo is maximum 100 KB and in JPG format.
• Please enter the correct personal data and the correct test level.
• Under "Test Center" select "Confucius Institute of University of Graz" or test center code "7050300".

2. transfer the examination fee to the following account.

YCT level 1 (exam code: YCT1): EURO 15

YCT level 2 (exam code: YCT2): EURO 20

YCT Level 3 (exam code: YCT3): EURO 25

YCT level 4 (exam code: YCT4): EURO 30

YCT oralexam-elementary level (exam code: YCTME): EURO 10

YCT oralexam-intermediate level (exam code: YCTMM): EURO 20

After registration and payment of the examination fee, it is no longer possible to cancel the examination. Unfortunately, the examination fee cannot be refunded. However, you can change the examination date in compliance with the following regulations.

• 27 working days (including 27 working days) before the examination, the examination date can be changed free of charge.
• 10 to 26 working days (including 10 working days) before the examination, the examination date may be changed subject to payment of 30% of the examination fee.
• It is not possible to change the examination date within 10 working days.

YCT level 1:

The examination time for YCT level 1 is 35 minutes, of which participants have 5 minutes to enter their personal data on the answer sheet.

The participants first write the solutions from the listening comprehension on the exam sheet. After the listening comprehension, the participants have 3 minutes to enter the solutions on the answer sheet.

The exam consists of 2 parts:

1. Listening comprehension (20 tasks, 10 minutes)
2. Reading comprehension (15 tasks, 17 minutes)

YCT level 2:

The examination time for YCT Level 2 is 50 minutes, of which participants have 5 minutes to enter their personal details on the answer sheet.

The participants first write the solutions from the listening comprehension on the exam sheet. After the listening comprehension, the participants have 3 minutes to enter the solutions on the answer sheet.

The exam consists of 2 parts:

1. Listening comprehension (20 tasks, 15 minutes)
2. Reading comprehension (20 tasks, 27 minutes)

YCT level 3:

The examination time for YCT Level 3 is 60 minutes, of which participants have 5 minutes to enter their personal details on the answer sheet.

The participants first write the solutions from the listening comprehension on the exam sheet. After the listening comprehension, the participants have 5 minutes to enter the solutions on the answer sheet.

The exam consists of 2 parts:

1. Listening comprehension (35 tasks, 20 minutes)
2. Reading comprehension (25 tasks, 30 minutes)

YCT level 4:

The examination time for YCT level 4 is 85 minutes, of which participants have 5 minutes to enter their personal details on the answer sheet.

The participants first write the solutions from the listening comprehension on the exam sheet. After the listening comprehension, the participants have 5 minutes to enter the solutions on the answer sheet.

The exam consists of 3 parts:

1. Listening comprehension (40 tasks, 30 minutes)
2. Reading comprehension (30 tasks, 30 minutes)
3. Writing (10 tasks, 15 minutes)

YCT oral exam - elementary level:

The examination time of the YCT Oral Examination - Elementary Level is 17 minutes, of which participants have 7 minutes to prepare.

The exam consists of 3 parts:

1. Listen and repeat (15 tasks, 4 minutes)
2. Listening and answering (5 tasks, 2 minutes)
3. Picture description (5 tasks, 4 minutes)

YCT oral exam - intermediate level:

The examination time of the YCT Oral Examination - Intermediate Level is 19 minutes, of which participants have 10 minutes to prepare.

The exam consists of 3 parts:

1. Listen and repeat (10 tasks, 3 minutes)
2. Listening and answering (2 tasks, 3 minutes)
3. Answering the questions (2 tasks, 3 minutes)

The exams in the "Home Edition" form take place online. This means that participants can take the exams at home if they fulfill certain requirements. Requirements and important information about the "Home Edition" exams can be found under "Home Edition".

• Identity card or passport
• Admission ticket (you will receive this after registration)
• Pencil (hardness 2B), eraser and ballpoint pen

As an exam participant, you can check the exam result 30 days (14 days for "Home Edition" exams) after the exam on the website www.chinesetest.cn by entering your name and admission ticket number.

As soon as you see your result, you can also download your certificate and print it out yourself a maximum of three times.

The certificate will be sent to the Confucius Institute at the University of Graz within 30 to 60 days after the exam. You can make an appointment by e-mail konfuzius(at)uni-graz.at in advance and collect your certificate on presentation of your passport.
